CS2 Premier has been locked, and the competitive community is buzzing. If you launched Counter-Strike 2 today and tried to queue for Premier, you were met with a “Game Mode Locked” message instead of the usual matchmaking screen. Don’t worry you’re not banned. This is Valve’s way of preparing for the next chapter of competitive CS2.
Why Is CS2 Premier Locked Right Now?
CS2 Premier is locked because Season 3 has officially ended. Valve temporarily locks Premier mode between seasons to perform backend updates, reset ratings, and prepare the leaderboards for a fresh start.
Season 3 wrapped up on January 19, 2026, marking the end of another six-month competitive cycle. Players who achieved 25 Premier wins with a visible CS Rating are now eligible for the exclusive Season 3 Premier Medal — a collectible badge that proves you competed at the highest level.
First Time Premier Has Been Locked for More Than 24 Hours
Here’s where things get interesting. This is the first time CS2 Premier has been locked for longer than 24 hours between seasons.
When Season 1 and Season 2 ended, Premier was only locked for exactly 24 hours before the new season went live. This time, the lockout has extended past that window, catching many players off guard.
Many players are frustrated, while others are treating it with the usual “Valve Time” humor. The extended downtime could indicate Valve is preparing a larger update alongside the new season.
When Does CS2 Season 4 Start?
Based on Valve’s historical release patterns, CS2 Season 4 is expected to launch on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Here’s why:
| Season | Launch Date | Day |
|---|---|---|
| Season 1 | September 27, 2023 | Wednesday |
| Season 2 | January 29, 2025 | Wednesday |
| Season 3 | July 16, 2025 | Wednesday |
| Season 4 | January 21, 2026 (Expected) | Wednesday |
Every Premier season to date has launched on a Wednesday. Combined with insider predictions and the current lock status, all signs point to an update dropping within hours.
Keep in mind that time zones create confusion—what’s Wednesday evening in Europe and Asia is still Tuesday night in North America.
